Backstage with Willy - Herbert Blomstedt

Time to bring to you more of the photography skills of our violinist William Haroutounian! Today we feature Willy’s photo of Herbert Blomstedt, who happens to also be our guest conductor this week. Maestro Blomstedt has joined us before and we are thrilled he is back to grace our halls again for a few days. It’s been several years since we were able to pin him down—he’s highly sought after due to his “several” years of rave reviews. After all, Maestro Blomstedt made his major conducting debut in 1954. You read that right, 1954…in fact, this July he will be celebrating his 85th birthday! And he is still going strong. There are still two more chances to see him with the NSO; don’t miss him this Saturday and Sunday conducting Beethoven and Strauss. And keep checking back for more of Willy’s photography!

What’s better than going to the symphony? Going with someone you love, of course! Our friends at the New York Philharmonic are sharing stories of some of their subscribers- including this adorable couple, who have been sharing their love of music for over 50 years.

Make a date with someone you care about to experience beautiful music together at the NSO! This week we’re featuring the romantic sounds of Beethoven and Strauss. Or come alone, and maybe you’ll catch the eye of a fellow music lover. And remember, subscriptions make great gifts any time of year. Spread the music love- and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
